Bookkeeper Convicted of Theft Sentenced to Eight Years Imprisonment

A former bookkeeper, Patricia Engela Plumridge (36), has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crime Court on Tuesday.

Plumridge was arrested by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on 30 August 2019, after she misappropriated about R1.8 million from her employer, a local fresh produce in Port Elizabeth.

Investigations revealed that between January 2016 and February 2019, Plumridge unlawfully transferred funds from her employer's account into her own bank account and forged bank statements which she then presented to the employer as legitimate in an attempt to mask her fraudulent activities.

Plumridge was found guilty as charged on 18 December 2019, culminating in the recent sentencing proceedings. She was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment suspended for five years on condition she doesn't commit a similar offense during this period.
